Animal Free Research Charity

Animal Free Research UK is a charity who fund and promote medical research that will replace the use of animals, in order to create kinder science and a world where human diseases are cured faster without animal suffering. Their mission is to inspire and support scientists and influence change to end the use of animals and improve medical research. 

Founded in 1970, Animal Free Research UK have awarded grants to over 250 projects that include research into cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, asthma, diabetes, kidney, heart and liver disease, to name a few. Through this research and by supporting other cutting-edge, animal free, research methodologies, there will be significant advances for more human-relevant medical research, benefiting the public health and reducing animal suffering.

In 2004, a study from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found that 92% of drugs entering clinical trials following animal testing fail to be approved. Of those approved, half are withdrawn or relabeled due to severe or lethal adverse effects not detected during animal tests. More recently, the failure rate is closer to 95%. Non-human animals do not get many of the same diseases that humans do, such as HIV, heart disease and many types of cancer, so signs of these diseases are artifically induced into animals.

In the UK alone, 7 animals are used in research every minute of each day. We have chosen to donate to this charity as we are passionate about fighting for a world where animals are no longer bred to be subjected to the most vile, cruel and ineffective experiments in the name of medical research. There have been many advances in technology that mean finding cures for human disease is possible without testing on non-human animals.
